| The CI-500 tensioning
paper dispenser delivers narrow paper, foil or film from
roll to process.
It was designed specifically for dispensing the interleaf
paper used when rewinding delicate stamped parts (connectors,
lead-frames). It has found use as a delivery system for release
papers on bead extrusion lines and as a simple, convenient
way to convey piece parts (pressure sensitive stickers, dots,
etc.). Doubtless, there are plenty of uses for this simple
device that we haven’t thought of yet! |

 |
| The simplicity
of this system’s
design belies its effectiveness. The picture
below shows
how it works. A dancer arm actuates a simple Prony brake
as is moves up and down. An adjustable weight may be fixed
anywhere along the length of the arm. The paper wraps around
a roller mounted on the end of the arm. The amount of tension
on the paper is proportional to the weight and its position
on the dancer. Once the tension increases beyond the amount
required to lift the dancer, the brake releases, the roll
turns and the dancer drops. Hence, if the line speeds are
modest so that inertial effects can be ignored, the tension
on the paper dispensed is consistent regardless of roll diameter.
The same cannot be said for systems with hand-adjusted torsion
brakes often used to provide back-tension on paper stocks. |
 |
| The CI-500 may be built for
either left-to-right or right-to-left delivery. The shell
is powder coated machinery gray. 12 or 18 inch tall mounting
posts are available as optional equipment. |
