The unit is shrouded in a heavy duty rubber casing that comes off to gain access to the battery compartment. The leads that are shown snap into the back of the unit which makes for great storage of leads . this meter does work as i replaced the "RED"grungy eveready photo battery with one from a camera i have . you will need to purchase your own photo battery as i placed my photo battery back in my camera after i tested this unit.
