This auction is for what has got to be the SMALLEST, MOST LIGHTWEIGHT portable overhead projector ever made!!
This overhead projector says "Apollo Audio/Video" on
each side, but for some reason I don't see a model number anywhere on it.
There is a metal label on the bottom with the serial number (engraved), and
another metal label that states the power requirements, says "for 210 x 297
mm," and also says "Cabin Industrial Co, Ltd." I looked up "Cabin
Industrial Co., Ltd." on the web, and a company profiles says that the
company "manufactures, sells and repairs optic machines, various precision
machines and electronic machines and tools." Cabin Industrial Co., Ltd. is a Japanese-based
company. So, here's what I think is going on: I think that this
overhead projector was made by Cabin Industrial for the Japanese market, but was
sold here under the "Apollo" name. I'm not certain about that, but
that's what the "for 210 x 297 mm" reference on the bottom label tells
me. If this was manufactured for the U.S. market, it wouldn't very likely make reference to millimeters instead of inches.
The reason I mention this is because there are a lot of cool stuff that
originates in Japan, but hardly sees the light of day over here. And I
have never seen an overhead projector that is as small, lightweight, or
well-designed as this one! So it makes sense to me that this was
originally intended for the Japanese market, because they love the challenge of
making things as small and compact as possible. To give you an idea of how
tiny this projector is -- it measures only 9-1/2" x 15" x 4-1/4" in size, and it
weighs only 12.9 pounds!! The main surface of this projector is
scarcely larger than a legal-size sheet of paper (!!), and yet the main
reflecting panel for this unit provides a full 11-1/4" x 7-7/8"of surface for
projection (this is A4 size paper, not regular U.S. letter-size paper, which
also indicates that this unit was originally designed for the overseas
market). When you see how everything fits into the interior of this unit
(see photos), I think that you will agree that the industrial designers squeezed
every possible inch that they could out of this unit. Despite the tiny size of
this projector, it still houses a full-size projector head, with a excellent
lens and high-power lamp and cooling fan for the lamp, and even has space to
store away the power cord. Designed for professionals on the go, this
totally portable projector makes an excellent traveling companion for anyone
that needs to use an overhead projector for presentations. This is
indeed the ideal portable solution for mobile users who need access to an
overhead projector.
This unit uses a reflective Fresnel mirror base,
with the light source located in the projector
head, so it doesn't need to have a deep housing to contain the
light source as regular transmissive-type overhead projectors do. The reflective platform rotates 90 degrees, so
that you can project in landscape as well as in portrait mode
(a very clever feature rarely found in overhead projectors), and even includes a small tray
for pens, pointers, etc. Cleverly designed so that
it sets up in a jiffy, this is a great overhead projector for anyone who needs
to take the projector from one location to another. Just remove the cover,
flip up the reflective platform for access to the projector head, lift up
the projector arm and then the projector head head, flip down the reflective platform, and
plug the projector in, and you are ready to project! Everything can be set
up in less than 1 minute!!
Key features for this projector include the following:
-
Compact and self-contained so it can be easily folded into its own
carrying case
- Reflective platform constructed with a hard coated finish that resists
scratching and reduces the chance of damage during ordinary use
- Reflective platform rotates 90 degrees for projecting
in landscape mode
- Convenient tray in reflecting platform for holding pencils, pens,
pointers, markers, and other such items
- Quiet cooling fan in projector head reduces noise that could distract
from your presentation
- Convenient carry handle
- Uses a standard (detachable) computer-type power cord that you can find
anywhere
- Weighs less than 13 pounds
This 3M Model 2000 AG Portable Overhead Projector is
used, but it is in excellent condition. For the most part, it looks almost
like new. The reflective base (one of the critical components of the
projector, because it has the Fresnel mirror on it) has a few light scratches,
but nothing major. There are also a few very light scratches and scuffs in
the external plastic casing, but you have to examine the unit carefully to see
these. I have personally used this projector several times, and it works
great. When I got it, it was new, and I have only used it for a total of
maybe 10 hours (about 15 minutes at a time, once every 2 weeks for
about a year). So there is plenty of life left on the lamp bulb.
(And, unlike LCD and DLP Data Projectors, you can get replacement bulbs for a
very nominal price -- maybe $10 to $20, compared to the HUNDREDS of dollars that
it costs to replace the lamps in LCD and DLP projectors.) I will guarantee
that this unit will be in good working condition when you receive this; however,
since I am not in a position to provide warranty service on this type of
product, I cannot provide any guarantee other than the specifically-aforestated
"non-D.O.A." warranty. I don't have the Owner's Manual for this projector,
but operation of this unit is straightforward, and you can download the manual,
in Adobe .PDF format, by clicking here.
This projector has a suggested retail price of almost $450, and sells online for
close to $300 (for example, here
); however, you name your price for this amazingly compact and
light-weight 3M Model 2000AG Portable Overhead Projector, here on eBay, because
I am selling this with NO RESERVE!!
