Metal Building System Framing Specifications

The following are the common specifications that apply:

Cold Formed

• Coils pre-coated with red-oxide primer before fabrication

• Tensile strength is at least 57,000 psi

• Minimal coil gauge/thickness ranges between 16 and 12 gauge

• Minimal Web depths are 4”, 6”, 8", 10", and 12" depending on local building code minimal requirements, existing foundation configuration, and/or customer preferred column spacing

Primed Versus Galvanized Components

Steel and iron that is protected by red-oxide primer is a much more cost-effective and valuable option than galvanized.  That is why "red iron" is used in the majority of commercial, industrial, agricultural, and residential out-building construction projects- from dog houses to stadiums. Galvanized is a strong alternative in extraordinarily uncommon corrosive environments such as salt-water corrosion zones, high-acidity rain zones, chemical plants, etc.  Galvanized steel cannot be factory-painted in-house, it cannot be curved without cracking the finish, and fatal fumes are produced when attempting to weld galvanized metal  Though it is resistant to red rust oxidation, galvanized metal is susceptible to white rust oxidation.

Red-oxide primer is designed to protect the steel before it is erected, For additional costs, some manufacturers just spray-paint manufactured components. Cold-formed steel is always fully primed before fabrication, and the red-oxide coat is baked on all our “red-iron” frames and components.

Roof fasteners

The most common culprit of rust in metal roofs is the screw. The finish (Galvalume or Acrylume coating or paint) protects the exposed surface of the panels, however the screws penetrate this painted surface and make direct metal-to-metal contact. If the screws do not seal properly or rust themselves, they will cause the panels to rust.

CHRISTbilt supplies only the highest-quality self-drilling screws for use with its roof panels. These deluxe fasteners have a zinc-aluminum alloy "Zac" head that cannot red rust. Its cupped design and SPDM sealing washer also protect the connection from moisture. CHRISTbilt offers a lifetime red-rust warranty on all roof fasteners.

Be careful with companies that use negative selling to slander other companies because they can’t compete with other companies like us with respect to quality and price.  These negative selling companies will say things like “they can’t sell you that building for that low of a price unless something is wrong with their building system.”  You can overcome this negative selling and lack of salesmanship by contacting any of the many, many references we provide at the bottom of this email, thousands more not contained in this email, and our 100% positive feedback on eBay, which speaks for itself.

 If so many of these dealers and salesmen are “the factory” as they claim to be, why are some of their prices double ours???  We are not controlled by the handful of producers of arch style buildings that 99.9% of these dealers and salesmen on eBay and elsewhere buy from, nor are we controlled by the handful of producers of red-iron frame buildings that close to the same percentage of these dealers and salesmen buy from, so we have 100% control of the pricing structure that we convey to prospective customers, without middleman mark-up that most of these dealers and salesmen are subject to. 

 YOUR PROCEDURAL CHECKLIST FOR PURCHASING A STEEL BUILDING SYSTEM:

1. Don’t let any steel building system salesman attempt to sell you the HIGH-PRESSURE, “LEFTOVER”, “CANCELED”, “FACTORY OVER-STOCK” sales pitch. This pitch is not true!!!  Less than 1% of steel building system orders fall into this category on a global industry scale, EXCEPT FOR THESE COMPANIES THAT TRICK CUSTOMERS WITH THIS SALES PITCH.  THESE COMPANIES TEND TO HAVE MUCH HIGHER CANCELATION PERCENTAGES AS A RESULT OF THEIR DECEPTION.   IF THE STORY IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABLY IS!
2. Don't be pushed into an unrealistic timeframe in which you have to place a deposit on a steel building system in order to get in on some fantastic deal.  FOR EXAMPLE:  “you have to be able to make a decision and put some money down in the next day or two in order to get the 50-70% discount.”
3. Don't buy a steel building system from any supplier unless you can verify that it can be produced to satisfy your local engineer design criteria for your county.
4. Don't place more than 25% deposit on any steel building system, which is more than enough to cover engineering and any fabrication costs.  WITH A 25% DEPOSIT IN GOOD FAITH AND TRUST FROM A CUSTOMER, THE STEEL BUILDING SYSTEM SUPPLIER SHOULD EARN THE OTHER 75% OF A CUSTOMER’S TRUST.
5. Don't sign any contract unless you are given the option of selecting your own delivery timeframe, or the timeframe is indicated on your contract.  The last thing the customer needs is costly delays.
6. Don't buy any steel building system unless you have verified that supplier with the Better Business Bureau and Dun & Bradstreet (SEE OUR D & B CREDENTIALS BELOW).
7. Don't sign any contract without clearly identifying all steel building system accessories.
8. Don't buy any steel building unless you can verify at least 3 references in your area. (SEE OUR REFERENCE LISTS BELOW.) This is a great way to check out the promises that are made and more importantly, ultimately kept by any steel building system supplier.
9. Don't buy a steel building system without receiving reference or preliminary drawings on your building.
10. If WE DON’T cover and satisfy EACH AND EVERY ONE of these very important points WE DON’T DESERVE YOUR BUSINESS.
